breaking overnight. as always, it's ron claiborne. >> two men are in custody this morning for allegedly planning a terror plot in the united states. they were in florida. but were in touch with radicals overseas. senior justice correspondent, pierre thomas, join us with the details. >> reporter: good morning. the two ft. lauderdale men are accused of threatening to blow up a bomb in the u.s. sources tell abc news, this was not a sting. and that the younger brother had been in contact with overseas radicals, possibly connected to al qaeda. the indictment accused the men of attempting to provide money, lodging and transportation, and conspiracy to use a weapon of mass destruction. and sources say, the fbi found evidence that the younger brother, had been monitoring recent fbi sting cases. so, authorities say infiltrating the alleged conspiracy was a non-starter. one law enforcement source described the young man's intent as serious. but the source said, the attack was not imminent. >> okay. pierre thomas, thanks for that report. >>> we have breaking news overnight from overseas. a new pro

and the city as what ron would say "a match made in heaven" because computer engineering is what i call a hybrid between electrical engineering and computer science because it world has many different sectors and you want to be versatile. you don't want to -- well, some of us would prefer to be experts in one field. for example programming or making robots, but i think being versed in both sides of the spectrum tells you tremendously understanding programming, electronics, signal processing, networking, chip design -- i could go on and on, and i think this will give us more opportunities in the area rather than being skilled in one thing. now i'm a senior and i am graduating in the spring, fingers crossed and i couldn't have made a better choice. i think computer engineering was the best choice for me. like i said opportunities are not always readily available. we all get nervous about that. sometimes we need to take charge and take those opportunities so last summer i decided to take it a step further and i applied for probably about 200 different interning opportunities that i sa

presidential candidate? for now, we turn to david corn of mother jones and ron reagan, an msnbc political analyst joining me. i want to start with ron. why would they want to change the ee lk tolectoral state like pennsylvania? why would they do that? >> well, i think the republicans have examined the playing field as it were and through long and bitter experience they have come to the conclusion that is it is very difficult for them to win on a national level unless they cheat. so they are going to cheat any way that they can. we saw it in the vote suppression. that didn't work out so well. so let's just change systemically the way we change the votes and in states like pennsylvania, ohio, michigan, florida, like that, these are the battleground states that we need to win and we're narrowly losing them now so let's at least try to get some of the electoral college votes out of this and tip the election. >> ron, you know why he's with him? it's not about the voter suppression. the 60 some counties that always go republican, they can't stand the fact that philadelphia and pittsburgh, large

i am now apparently, i am now doing tib ron, angel island and sauce leet toe and so i see the commuters at tib ron which i'm fond of and the tourists at sauce leet toe and the tourists from angel island and we have finally recovered from the loss of the alcatraz ferry and when -- refused to hire any of our m m p i'm sorry because we have a great staff here and i would like to tell that you blue and gold is really a good company to work for. thank you. >> thank you. 't get enough, thought we were more awake than we were. abc's ron claiborne took part in that experiment. >> reporter: my eyes are open, but what you can't tell in this experiment is i am actually asleep. every day, 250,000 americans fall asleep while driving. like this woman who was videotaped seemingly nodding off at the wheel in denver. sleep-deprived drivers are blamed for thousands of crashes every year, but many times it's not that obvious. scientists say there is something called microsleep. where you can fall asleep for just a few seconds without realizing it, sometimes with your eyes open. hi, i'm ron claiborne. we traveled to liberty mutual research institute outside of boston where they study microsleep. >> a very brief transition from wakefulness new sleep. it can last up to 20, 30 seconds. you are waking. you are asleep. >> i would drive while sleep deprived. to mimic conditions of people who do not get enough sleep. i stayed up all night. >> i have been up 24 hours. >> at the lab i was looked up to a brain wave monitor. i thought i could handle the driving. i feel okay now.

>> good morning, i'm >> good morning, i'm congressman ron barber from southern arizona. currently completing the term that was served by congresswoman gabrielle giffords. i come to this issue from a number of perspectives. on january 8, 2011, i was standing beside congresswoman as the district director when a gunman charged forward and opened up. i saw him shoot the congresswoman. i decided that day, the judge died and my colleague died. in 45 seconds, 30 bullets were discharged from one clip. 45 seconds. 19 people were down. six of them died. that was an extended clip. the gunman had another one in his pocket and two shorter ones in his pocket and had it not been for the quick action, the courageous action of people there, he would have loaded and 30 more bullets would have been discharged. i come to this issue as a parent and a grandparent. i was on my way to the rural part of my district on friday when i heard the news about the shootings in connecticut. first i heard three had died. that was bad enough, and then i heard 20 children had died. i was devastated. i have two grandc

another fell into an icy lake. >> check this out. abc's ron claiborne tells us they were all trying to rescue one another. >> reporter: it began when one man accidently slipped off of a sheet of ice and into the lake. the people you see in this video are members of a sledding excursion that goes terribly wrong. >> we saw this guy coming across the ice really fast. it went from cheering to all of a sudden just an unbelievable amount of panic and chaos. >> reporter: one man goes to the ice's edge to help, but then he falls in. and then one would-be rescuer after another, tries to help, only to plunge in themselves, in a chain reaction. a crowd gathers on shore, screaming for help. >> call 911! >> reporter: five minutes after the first man went in, nearly a dozen people are now in the water, as others throw roping and enter tubes. you can hear them calling for someone to bring a rope. >> it was very hard to watch. it was gut wrenching. >> reporter: finally, nine minutes into this ordeal on ice, everyone somehow manages to scramble out. amazingly, this escapade on ice ended happily. eve

muller. who's in for ron claiborne. >>> good morning, everyone. for the second time in as many weeks the nfl is mourning the loss of one of its players. the dallas cowboys josh brent will be in court this morning. he flipped his car early saturday morning that killed a teammate. we're hearing from brent for the first time this morning. abc's clayton sandell has the story. >> reporter: police say that dallas cowboys player josh brent was speeding down this road, just after 2:00 a.m., when his mercedes crashed, flipped and caught fire. in the passenger seat, his teammate, jerry brown. >> when our officers arrived on scene, mr. brent was removing -- or dragging mr. brown from the vehicle. >> brent was given and failed field sobriety tests. brown was rushed to a hospital where he died. >> once the officers learned that brown had passed away then mr. price-brent was under arrest for intoxication manslaughter. >> on behalf of josh, a tremendous loss to him. this was like losing a little brother. >> reporter: it's not the first time that brent has been charged with drinking and driving. he
